ANT PEST CONTROL IN DUBLIN

Ant control in Dublin

The black garden ant is the most common in Ireland, and it really is a magnificent insect!! They are keen explorers, and you will find them in the most unlikely places. Black garden ants are most active during the early summer months as they attempt to increase the food supply to their queen and her young.

These tiny social creatures are hard-working, and resilient and will find their way into homes, restaurants, and other commercial properties.

They have become more of a problem in recent years due to the changes in our weather patterns. Therefore, we are seeing more of the ants “out of their normal season”.

A few ants here and there may seem harmless but can quickly multiply and become a big pest problem that needs professional ant control solutions.

The Ant Life Cycle: Mating Flights to Colony Formation

Ants, including the common black garden ant, have a life cycle. Mating flights occur during the summer, usually July and August when winged males and flying ants are airborne. After mating, the males die, and the fertilised queen will search for a suitable site to establish her colony.

She will overwinter in her chosen nest and start laying eggs in the spring. Within weeks, the eggs will hatch into larvae and then into worker ants. The worker ants then take on their duties of larval care, nest building, and foraging for food while the black garden ant queen concentrates on laying eggs which will number into the thousands!

They have been recorded cases of a Queen Ant living for nearly 30 years! The Queen Ant’s main function is to reproduce and has no known real authority over the colony.

How Ants Find Food: The Science of Foraging

Ants are very efficient foragers. They use a combination of chemical pheromone trails and visual landmarks to find food. On their first trip out, they follow pheromone trails left by other ants, which lead them to food. As they travel, ants store the route in their memory so they can navigate back and forth with incredible precision. This ensures the colony has a constant supply of food, which can be anything from pet food to sweet substances left unattended.

Ant Treatment: What to Expect from Professional Services

When you contact a pest control expert for ant control in Dublin, they will assess the extent of the infestation and recommend the best course of action.

This may involve using ant pest control treatments that target the colony so the queen and worker ants are eliminated. In some cases, ant control solutions may involve baiting techniques that attract ants to a poison that is then carried back to the nest and kills the ants at the source.

Are Ants Harmful? The Risks

Ants don’t carry diseases, but they can contaminate food and surfaces, especially in environments where hygiene is critical, such as hospitals and restaurants. Some ant species like pharaoh ants are particularly invasive and difficult to get rid of without professional help.

Professional Ant Control Dublin: Does it Worth It?

The cost of getting rid of ants varies depending on the severity of the infestation and the treatment required. However, investing in professional pest control is often more cost-effective in the long run as it prevents future ant infestations. DIY methods may seem cheaper initially, but they don’t address the root of the problem and you’ll end up with more ants and more expense in the long term.

I am absolutely delighted with the service I received from Pest Control and would highly recommend them.

I initially phoned Elaine to explain that I had wasps getting in between the wall and a wooden panel above my sitting room window. Elaine explained the dangers of trying to treat the problem myself and advised that it was much safer to leave it to the professionals. She also explained that the wasps had probably started building their nest around February and that, due to the very hot weather, I was now noticing a significant increase in activity.

I booked an appointment and Tony arrived exactly as arranged. He explained clearly what he was going to do and advised me to remain indoors for the following hour, as the wasps would become very active once the treatment was applied.

Tony put on all the necessary safety equipment and carried out the treatment. I honestly could not believe the number of wasps that were actually there! There is no way I would have been able to deal with them myself, regardless of how much wasp killer powder I used.

Tony was extremely professional and reassuring throughout the whole process. He even said he would call back the following day to check that the job had been successful, which I thought was excellent customer service.

A big thank you to Elaine and Tony for their professionalism, expertise, efficiency and excellent service. The problem was dealt with quickly and properly, and I now have peace of mind knowing it has been taken care of by professionals.

I would highly recommend Pest Control to anyone who has a wasp problem. Excellent service from start to finish! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

FAQ about Ants Control

Flying ants usually show up during the warmer months, especially when there’s a spell of good weather. To deal with them, the first step is to find out where they’re coming from—usually, it’s a hidden nest nearby. A mix of soapy water in a spray bottle can help; it kills them instantly and is safe to use around the home. Make sure to seal up any cracks or gaps around windows and doors to keep them out. If the problem persists, it might be time to call in a professional pest control service.

Getting rid of ants for good involves a bit of strategy. First, try to find the nest because that’s where the real issue lies. Ant baits are your best friend here—place them where you see ants and let them do the work. The ants bring the bait back to the nest, which kills the entire colony over time. Keep your kitchen clean, wipe down surfaces with vinegar, and make sure there are no crumbs or food left out. Sealing up cracks around windows, doors, and skirting boards will also help keep them at bay.

Ants are persistent, but there are a few tricks to keep them out of your home. Peppermint oil, lemon juice, and vinegar are all great natural repellents; ants can’t stand the smell. You can also sprinkle some diatomaceous earth or chalk along entry points. Keep your counters and floors clean, and store food in airtight containers. Little changes like these can make a big difference.

Ants absolutely hate strong smells like vinegar, peppermint, and lemon. Cinnamon and coffee grounds are also big turn-offs for them. Sprinkling these around windows, doorways, or other entry points can help keep them away. They also avoid diatomaceous earth and boric acid, which can be used safely around the home.

Ants have a few natural enemies, like spiders, beetles, and even some birds. But when it comes to getting rid of them in your home, boric acid and bait traps are their worst nightmare. These solutions target the whole colony, not just the ants you see, which makes them incredibly effective.

nt bites can vary in appearance, but they usually show up as small, red bumps on the skin that can be itchy or slightly swollen. They might look similar to a mosquito bite but can sometimes have a tiny white center, especially if the ant has injected a small amount of formic acid. The bites are often grouped together in clusters if multiple ants have been involved. For most people, the redness and itching will clear up within a few days without any major issues.

Ant bites are usually harmless but can be annoying, especially if you have sensitive skin. First, clean the bite area with soap and water to prevent infection. If it’s itchy or swollen, you can apply a cold compress to reduce any swelling and soothe the skin. An over-the-counter antihistamine cream or calamine lotion can help relieve itching. For pain, a bit of paracetamol or ibuprofen can do the trick. If you notice any severe reactions like difficulty breathing, swelling beyond the bite area, or hives, it’s best to seek medical attention immediately.
